Integrated Engineering 058 Crank Girdle/Bedplate Kit Installation
Thank you for purchasing another high quality Integrated Engineering product! This instruction sheet is used for installation of the Integrated Engineering crank girdle/bedplate kit for the 058 1.8T engines. This kit needs to be installed by a professional or by an experienced technician. Integrated Engineering is not responsible for any damage caused by incorrect installation. Serious engine damage can occur from incorrect installation.
(1) Custom length ARP main stud kit
(20) M6x25mm oil pan bolts
(20) M6 washers for oil pan bolts
(10) Girdle spacers
(2) M10x110mm transmission bolts (longitudinal engines only)
(1) M10x50mm oil pan bolt
(1) M10x35mm oil pan bolt
(4) M10 washers for transmission and oil pan bolts
Before beginning installation, unpack and inventory all components on a clean work table and verify that you have everything needed to proceed.
Step 1 Place the engine on a secure working surface or engine stand so that the main caps are in the upright position. Girdle fitting can be done with no internal components installed for mocking purposes, but the components must be installed upon final assembly.
Step 2 Apply a light coat of oil on the bottom side of the ARP studs. Install all studs into the block and tighten hand tight with a 4mm hex key wrench.
Step 3 With main caps in place, install girdle spacers onto main studs. If using IE Tall Boy main caps refer to the included install sheet- you will not need the girdle spacers. Skip to step 9 if using Tall Boy main caps.
Step 4 Place girdle plate onto block. Be sure that all main caps are fully seated so plate will sit level.
Step 5 Apply a small amount of ARP assembly lubricant to each main stud where the nut will be installed. Install all washers onto studs, followed by the nuts. Using a torque wrench that has not been dropped, torque the studs to 60 ft/lbs using the factory torque sequence.
Step 6 Using feeler gauges, measure the gap between the girdle plate and the block. Be sure to measure in several spots on both sides of the block to get an average measurement of the gap. Take note of these measurements. You can now remove main stud nuts and girdle plate.
Step 7 Remove spacers from studs. Number each spacer so they can be installed in the same position for final assembly. The girdle spacers will need to be machined to close the gap between the girdle plate and the block.
Step 8 Measure each spacer and subtract the measurement of the gap to get final size required. Machine each spacer accordingly to remove excess material and close gap. The tolerance for the gap between the girdle plate and block is 0.001”.
Step 9 The main journals will need to be line honed by an engine machine shop with ARP studs installed and the nuts torqued to ensure journal circularity. Installation of crankshaft, pistons, and rods can now be finalized. Once this has been completed, you are ready for the final installation of the girdle.
Step 10 Reinstall the machined spacers onto the studs that they were on when the gap between the girdle plate and block was measured. This insures the girdle will now fit properly. Install the crankshaft and front and rear main seals. Apply a thin bead of sealant to the outer perimeter and around each oil pan bolt hole.
Step 11 Reinstall the machined spacers onto the studs that they were on when the gap between the girdle plate and block was measured. This insures the girdle will now fit properly. Install the crankshaft and front and rear main seals. Apply a thin bead of sealant to the outer perimeter and around each oil pan bolt hole.
Step 13 After installing the oil pump, apply a thin bead of sealant on top of the girdle plate and each bolt hole that will seal the pan to the block . Step 14 Using the supplied 25mm bolts and washers, torque the oil pan to the engine block
Step 15 Install the 35mm, 50mm and 110mm bolts with the supplied washers.
- If used in a longitudinal application, use the two supplied 10x110mm bolts with washers to bolt transmission to block.
- With girdle installed, the bolts from transmission to oil pan will no longer line-up and cannot be used unless oil pan is modified.
