This is a custom package with Integrated Engineering 140x21mm Tuscan I beam connecting rods and JE forged pistons. This is by far the strongest combination available for the S54 bottom end! Purchase together and save $150!

Tuscan connecting rods are the best rods available for your European engine due to quality, custom application specific design, and thorough testing. Each Tuscan design is different from any other design because they are custom-crafted and optimized by our engineers using the latest CAD and FEA software. This is in contrast to the industry standard which simply resizes standard designs to fit new engines. Each application is vigorously tested in our in-house engine test cell. We have gone the extra mile to design specific big ends for each application, keeping the bearing in place and reducing chances of failures. This results in a connecting rod that is uniquely strong and light, for the ultimate in performance and reliability.

IE Tuscan rods for turbocharged applications feature a robust I-Beam design for incredible bending and torsional stiffness. Additionally, an extensive iterative process lead to the unique Egg shape of our rod beams, which lowers stresses as much as 20% compared to less evolved designs. This shape very evenly distributes the high compressive loading from a turbocharged engine onto the connecting rod beam. We then validated this success with over 18 months of field testing, powering numerous 4 cylinder VW / Audi engines with over 1000 bhp! 
In addition to being tough, IE Tuscan rods are also designed to minimize unnecessary weight on the connecting rod for an ultra balanced weight to strength ratio.  Our engineering staff has spent countless hours trimming the fat- leaving exactly what is needed to get the reliability you want, with the weight you don't.

rifle drilling

Optional Rifle Drilling
To keep wrist pin wear at the minimum, all of our forged rods are available in a rifle drilled option. Rifle drilling forces pressurized oil through a small orifice placed vertically through the rod and further lubricates the pin and bushing. This extra oiling causes less wear and friction between the rod and piston and increasing the life of the internals. We highly recommend the rifle drilling option for street-driven cars, as they typically see more mileage put on them, but works well to extend pin life on any setup.  You can select the rifle drilled option at an additional $25.00 per rod.

These connecting rods feature a 140MM C/C length, which is designed for custom piston use only.

The included set of forged JE pistons for the S54B32 engines is made to IE specs, with the options for standard or +.5mm bores, both standard high compression ratio (11.5:1) or low compression for turbo use (9.0:1). JE is the industry leader in forged racing pistons, seen in many racing applications including Nascar. These pistons are made from JE's 2618 alloy, which is much stronger than the 4032 alloy commonly found in forged pistons. JE also offers the shortest lead time on custom pistons. There is several options available for bore, stroke, compression ratio, and additional features. These pistons all come standard with 21MM wrist pins, which can be used with Integrated Engineering 140x21MM connecting rods.

Tips on choosing piston options:

Compression ratio
Lower compression ratios are recommended for higher boost applications. When using a middle sized turbo on a street car, compression ratios around 9.0:1 are recommended. For high performance naturally aspirated builds, 11.5 is recommended. Custom compression ratios are also available- please contact us to order.

Bore
Factory bore on the S54 engine is 87MM. Increasing the bore will increase displacement, thus increasing power. Along with that, boring the engine will allow you to set the piston-to-wall clearances properly. Boring the engine out is always recommended. If you start with the maximum bore, you will not be able to remachine the block if any damage is caused to the cylinder walls.

Stroke
The factory stroke of the S54 engines is 91MM. There are no options to stroke them any further currently, so no stroker pistons are offered.

Tool Steel Wrist Pins
The tool steel wrist pin option is to upgrade from the standard mild steel pins, to JE's thick wall tool steel wrist pins. They are recommended for 600+ WHP.

Coatings
There is two coating options that we offer with the JE pistons- Thermal Barrier Crown, and Tuff Skirt. The Thermal Barrier crown coating is applied to the top of the piston, and is designed to keep heat out of the piston, and deflect it into the combustion chamber. This will increase exhaust gas velocity, as well as extend piston life. The Tuff Skirt coating is an anti-friction coating applied to the skirt of the piston. This coating will help reduce wear on skirts and cylinder walls.

All pistons include rings, wrist pins, and wire locks.
Pistons take 2-3 weeks for manufacturing, and another 1-2 weeks with coatings.
